The political representatives for the Transnistrian conflict settlement agreed that a meeting of the working groups on economy will be held on February 18 or 19. It will involve the partners in the 5+2 format talks. The goal of the meeting is to identify solutions to the problems faced by the companies from both banks of the Nistru River, IPN reports.

The Transnistrian administration insists that some of the amendments made to the Moldovan fiscal legislation affects the Transnistrian businesses, saying this is an economic blockade.

According to a communiqué from the Reintegration Office, in the February 7 meeting of the political representatives, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov raised the problem of pressure exerted by the Transnistrian security services on the Tiraspol Lyceum “Lucian Blaga”. He called on the Transnistrian side to refrain from taking unilateral actions against the Moldovan-administered Latin-script schools in Transnistria, saying any problem should be discussed within the existing mechanisms.

The delegation of Chisinau underlined that the abusive detention, search and dispossession of goods of six Moldovan peacekeepers is a serious and unprecedented incident in the history of the settlement process, which reveals the inefficiency of the existing mechanisms. Eugen Carpov paid a visit to “Lucian Blaga” Lyceum, where he assured that the Government will make effort to solve the problems faced by the institution.

On February 5, Ion Iovcev, the accountant and driver of the lyceum were arrested by the Transnistrian security forces near Parcani village when they were returning from Chisinau with the salaries of teachers. They were accused of smuggling and detained for over 5 hours. The lyceum’s stamp and the money were confiscated. Six Moldovan peacekeepers, who went to the place to clarify the situation, were also detained for a period.
