Prosecution and defense in Vlad Filat’s case make contradictory statements

Prosecutor Adriana Betisor said the witnesses questioned in the April 6 hearing in the case of former Prime Minister Vlad Filat confirmed the prosecution’s version, while lawyer Igor Popa considers that most of these witnesses are nonobjective and biased, IPN reports.

According to the prosecutor, the witnesses confirmed ownership of companies to which money was transferred from Banca de Economii at the accused’s request. “There were witnesses who said that the cars owned by them were used by persons close to Vlad Filat. For example, a Porche Macan car is owned by Olga Roman, who is investigated in another case related to this case,” stated Adriana Betisor.

On the other hand, Igor Popa presumes that these witnesses were threatened that criminal cases will be opened against them if they do not make the expected statements. Furthermore, a part of these are investigated as suspects or are prosecuted in other cases, some of which are dealt with by Adriana Betisor.

The lawyer said the next hearing will take place on April 8 and the last witnesses for the prosecution could be questioned in this. “We hope that after Friday’s hearing, the trial will be made public because we will come with our witnesses and see no reason for continuing holding hearings behind closed doors,” stated Igor Popa.

He added that the defense has over 30 witnesses and has conclusive evident that will be put on the judges’ table.
