Prosecutor general must be under state control, Nicolae Timofti

President Nicolae Timofti considers that the post of prosecutor general must be under state control. He made such a suggestion after the Prosecutor General’s Office put forward a bill with amendments to the legislation, whereby they propose that the prosecutor should be selected by the General Assembly of Prosecutors, IPN reports.

”The post of prosecutor must be under state control as it is about the criminal policy of the state and the prosecutor must be the representative of this power. This post should form part of the executive power, of the Justice Ministry,” said Nicolae Timofti.

The Prosecutor General’s Office suggested that the prosecutor general should be chosen by a direct, secret and freely expressed vote of all the prosecutors of Moldova. The selected candidate will be presented to the Head of Parliament, who will put him forward in Parliament for confirmation.

The prosecutor general is now proposed to Parliament by the Speaker.
