A large number of people came together in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on January 13 to protest against the nomination of a candidate without integrity for the post of Prime Minister. The protest was organized by the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” and the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”, IPN reports.
One of the leaders of the Platform Vasile Nastase said that the Democratic Party is considering fielding Vlad Plahotniuc for premiership. The people must not allow criminal dictatorship and the oligarchic system to be fully established in the country. They possess information that if Plahotniuc is proposed for premiership, President Nicolae Timofti could resign. “If you want to resign, you should sign decrees to withdraw the Orders of the Republic given to Plahotniuc and Filat before you leave. It’s not normal for the people of culture to be compared with these persons,” he stated, addressing the head of state.
Vasile Nastase noted that a number of minibus routes were annulled today so that the people could not reach the Great National Assembly Square. Also, the people from districts were pressed by local Democrats to take part in the protest mounted in the square of the National Opera House so as to exert pressure on the head of state and this nominates the candidate proposed by the PDM. “I’m sure that those who were brought by the PDM will come to the central square of Chisinau. We are not two different camps. We are a people who is against a criminal clique,” he said.
Platform member Valentin Dolganiuc called on the people to join in the protest. “We declare a general state of siege in the Republic of Moldova. Let’s oppose with all our force, in each house and each community, so that this junta does not succeed. Those who are at home or at work should know that today is the moment of truth. We must say things by their real name or will be the slaves or a criminal clique,” he stated.
Secretary of the Great National Assembly Council Chiril Motpan said the people in the country are on the alert. “We call on the people to avoid confrontations. We will be near the people till the end. We do not want to come into a conflict with the people who were paid by 100-150 lei for supporting ‘we don’t know whom’,” he stated.
Contacted by IPN, deputy head of the Chisinau Police Division Silviu Musuc refused to specify the estimated number of protesters who came together in the central square of Chisinau, saying the figures change permanently.
A demonstration in support of the candidate for premiership fielded by the Democratic Party is staged in parallel in the square of the National Opera House. A large column of police officers was formed between the two camps so as to maintain public order.
