The people who came to the protest staged by the National Resistance Movement ACUM went on a march to the Parliament Building from the Monument to Ruler Stephan the Great. They were urged to march to the most important state institutions, such as the Presidential Office, the Security and Intelligence Service, the National Anticorruption Center and the Constitutional Court. According to the organizers, after the march the column of protesters will
return to the Great National Assembly Square to continue the protest, IPN reports.
“Let’s go to the main state institutions that were captured and that now allow the thieves of billions and traffickers in human beings to show disrespect for the people. We suggest going to the Parliament Building, the Security and Intelligence Service, which should take care of the country’s security and our security, and to the National Anticorruption Center, which protects those who are corrupt. Let’s go on a march and remind those who are in these institutions what we pay them salaries for, that the law rules in the Republic of Moldova and we, together with you, will enforce it and they will have to answer for the wrongdoings they commit,” said the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu.
“Let’s stage a freedom march to the captured state institutions – the Parliament, the Presidential Office, the SIS, the Constitutional Court, the NAC. We will then all return to the Great National Assembly Square and will continue our protest that will be uninterrupted and that will continue overnight and tomorrow. Tomorrow these rascals from the government should not step here. The Independence Day is of the people, not of the usurper,” stated the leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Năstase.
The National Resistance Movement ACUM announced a large-scale protest against the government’s departures for August 26. The protest started near the Monument to Ruler Stephan the Great as sympathizers of the Shor Party were having a barbecue and were amusing themselves in the central square of Chisinau, where the protest was to be held.
Protesters organized by ACUM also gathered near the Triumphal Arch and on Ștefan cel Mare Blvd and carabineers formed a cordon between them and the sympathizers of the Shor Party. The Government Building was surrounded with a metal fence that had the words “Police. Do not cross” attached to it with adhesive tape. A large number of police officers, firefighter and carabineers were deployed on the street between the Government Building and the National Palace “Nicolae Sulac”.
The Committee of the National Resistance Movement ACUM was created in reaction to the decision to not validate the Chisinau early mayoral elections and has among its leaders heavyweights of the PAS, PPPDA, PLDM and representatives of civil society.
