Representatives of the people who protest in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau acted rightly when they turned down the invitation to discussions made by Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet. Such statements were made by representatives of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.
Political analyst Igor Botan, one of the leaders of the Platform, said that one of the reasons for which they declined Valeriu Strelet’s invitation is the fact that the meeting was set to take place at the Ministry of Agriculture. “The fact that the protesters, being at a distance of several meters from the Government Building, were invited elsewhere is strange. I don’t understand why we should go to the Ministry of Agriculture. So, I think we acted correctly,” he stated.
Another leader of the Platform, former ECHR judge Stanislav Pavlovschi said he considers that the Premier’s initiative wasn’t sincere and the ruling class does not really want to meet with the protesters. “The rulers do not actually want to meet with those who voted them. I didn’t see goodwill on their part, only lack of respect. It is an insult. We are not criminals. We will request the international institutions to exert pressure on the Moldovan authorities so that they satisfy protesters’ demands,” he stated.
Director of the Institute of Public Policy Arcadie Barbarosie considers protesters’ demands are justified and the ruling politicians should accept them. “The people are in despair. They don’t know how to live further. I think holding early elections is a solution,” he said.
