The European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) has launched a campaign to inform its political partners and the diplomatic corps about the pressures to which the party is subjected by the ruling party. Statements to this effect were made by PSDE chairman Ion Sula at a press conference, IPN reports.

According to Ion Sula, since the campaign prior to the local elections, the PSDE has been subjected to attacks on the part of the ruling party with the aim of weakening it. However, despite the  pressure exerted by the government, the PSDE obtained a very good score in the general local elections, ranking third and proving that it is a political force that has a word to say, with mayors and district and local councilors who are appreciated by the people for results, not words.

The PSDE chairman noted that at the local level, the PAS created coalitions with pro-Kremlin parties, in districts where they could form pro-European coalitions with parties that support the country’s European and Western development course. The refusal to form coalitions with pro-Europeans in district councils so as to create majorities is part of “the obscure plan to destroy the pro-European parties in the Republic of Moldova”.

He also said that the PAS, using administrative resources, including from European funds, through locality development projects, exerts pressure on PSDE mayors and elected officials to make them migrate to the ruling party, imposing conditions for granting European funds for the development of localities. The last case of this kind was that of the local social-democratic elected representatives from Hîncești district.

Within the information campaign, the PSDE will also inform the diplomatic corps and international organizations accredited in the Republic of Moldova about “these serious and anti-democratic attacks of the PAS government, which actually endanger the European development path of the country.”

The Party of Action and Solidarity hasn’t yet commented on the accusations made against it.
