The Republican Council of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) adopted a resolution on the boycotting of the referendum on European integration. The Political Executive Committee of the Central Committee of the Party of Communists (PCRM) also decided to urge the voters to vote “against” the amendment of the Constitution in the referendum, IPN reports.

At the meeting of the Republican Council of the PSRM, the political situation in the country was analyzed and the party’s position on participation in the presidential election and the constitutional referendum was agreed. The statement on the presidential election says that the replacement of Moldova’s leadership is the main objective of the party. It underlines the opportunity to put forward a common candidate of the opposition forces for the position of President, mentioning the former prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo as a possible candidate.

The Republican Council also adopted a resolution on boycotting “the referendum on European integration organized by Maia Sandu’s regime in order to stay in power,” the PSRM said.

The Communists also emphasized the need to vote “against” the referendum initiated by the current government. “The citizens of the Republic of Moldova must say a categorical ‘no’ to the government’s lawlessness and fraud on the next PAS’ attempts to desecrate the country's Constitution with useless and absurd amendments,” says the party's message.

“In no country in the world, including EU member states, European integration is included in the Constitution. Moreover, the amendment of the Electoral Code, an arrogant and unprincipled practice of the current government to use administrative resources for its own interest, significantly increases the chances of failure of the referendum boycotting by refusing to take ballots. At the same time, artificially, the percentage of citizens who are “for” increases,” said the PCRM.
