The Party of Socialists (PSRM) submitted an application to the Constitutional Court (CC), asking interpreting the constitutional provisions about the method of overcoming the political crisis that can be witnessed if a new Government is not invested within three months, IPN reports.
“The legislation provides that early parliamentary elections cannot take place within six months prior to the presidential elections. However, during this period of six months, a Government may not be formed within the period of three months stipulated in the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova. We want to know if the head of state can announce early elections if the Government falls and a new Cabinet is not installed during the next three months,” said Socialist MP Vasile Bolea.
He noted that the Supreme Law contains contradictory provisions. One article provides that Parliament cannot be dissolved within six months prior to the presidential elections, while other articles stipulate that Parliament is dissolved if the new Government is not elected within three months.
The Socialists requested the CC to clarify this situation and to explain the possible actions of the head of state and Parliament if the Cabinet is not invested during the set period.
