Referendum to be held simultaneously with elections to choose MEPs from Romania

The Romanian  citizens from the Republic of Moldova in the elections to choose Members of the European Parliament on May 26 could also vote in a referendum centering on problems of national interest at the same polling places, between 7am and 9pm. The electors can choose to vote only in elections or also in the referendum, IPN reports, quoting a press release of Romania’s Embassy in Chisinau.

The Government of Romania adopted two normative documents to govern the holding of the national referendum simultaneously with the EP elections in Romania. The people who will initially choose to vote in one of the ballots can later vote in the other ballot until the polling stations close.

At the national referendum, the voters will mandatorily receive two ballots, by one for each of the questions put up for the plebiscite, and will be unable to choose to answer only one of the questions. The models of ballots can be seen on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania.

Romania’s Embassy in Chisinau reminds that the Romanian citizens from the Republic of Moldova can use the guide of the Romanian voter abroad and a brochure with frequent questions concerning the May 26, 2019 elections that are available on the same website.

The Embassy recommends consulting this section permanently as this is updated every time new information becomes available.
