The members of the working group for examining problems related to the implementation of the constitutional provisions on the status of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia have different opinions on the group’s work. The representatives of Chisinau say work is done and results will be achieved, while the representatives of Gagauzia say nothing was decided during three months and thus the group is useless. The third meeting of the working group was held on May 20, IPN reports.
The group’s head, Democratic MP Dumitru Diacov said the proposals and bills put forward by their colleagues from Gagauzia will be submitted to the Government and experts for examination. He admitted that the discussions are rather heated, but avoided saying which of the subjects cause controversy.
On the other hand, the chairman of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Dmitri Constantinov, who forms part of the working group, told the journalists that no decision was taken during three months and none of the proposed bills was examined. He considers that the group is inefficient and the projects should be better transmitted to Parliament through the People’s Assembly.
The working group was created by an order made by Head of Parliament Igor Corman on March 14. Its goal is to competently analyze the problems related to the status of Gagauzia and the implementation of the constitutional norms.
