Prime Minister Pavel Filip and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Groisman, who is in Moldova on an official visit, on October 6 signed a roadmap for developing the Moldovan-Ukrainian cooperation for 2018 and two bilateral agreements – on the readmission of persons who stay illegally and on joint control of persons, units of transport and goods at joint Moldovan-Ukrainian state border crossing points, IPN reports.
In a news conference given after the signing of the agreements, Pavel Filip said this was the fourth meeting with the Ukrainian Premier so far this year and this fact shows that the relations between the two states are excellent. Moldova and Ukraine respect each other and face a series of similar problems. During Pavel Filip’s working visit to Kyiv at the start of this year, there was signed a roadmap whose implementation level was discussed in today’s meeting.
The Premier said an important agreement for Moldova was signed today. This envisions the creation of joint checkpoints along the common border. They also discussed other important issues, such as the mutual recognition of property and the functioning of the hydroelectric complex in Novodnestrovsk. It was agreed to constitute a joint commission that would monitor the state of the ecosystem. Another subject for discussion was the problems faced by road carriers and an agreement that will enable to liberalize road and air transport between the two states is to be signed soon.
For his part, Volodimir Groisman said that Ukraine pays special attention to the bilateral relations with Moldova. A number of common problems have been solved this year so that the relations could become even more intense. Besides the roadmap and the two agreements signed in Chisinau today, there will also be signed other documents that will bring the two states closer. These include an agreement on transport that will simplify the drivers’ access to Ukraine.
Volodimir Groisman also spoke about the education system reform in Ukraine, which covers the national minorities. He noted that Ukraine respects any national minority and the situation will be analyzed to see if consultations need to be held to identify measures to support the minorities. Ukraine demands that the official language be known, but will ensure all the conditions for the national minorities to develop.
