The attempt of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin to obstruct the European integration process in Moldova was unsuccessful. It is important that the Moldovan officials show perseverance and consistency and ensure political stability, considers the Liberal Reforming Party (PLR).
“The attempt to scare us failed. This will highlight the problems faced by Russia in its desperate attempts to keep a positive image, employing methods that are far from being democratic,” the leader of the Liberal reformers Ion Hadarca said in a news conference at IPN.
According to the MP, the statements made by Dmitri Rogozin may be an attempt to cause a wave of dissatisfaction among the people and companies, aimed against the government and the European course. “It is important to show the same consistency as until now. We fulfilled all the commitments to the EU and hope that the Vilnius Summit will be a success for us,” stated Ion Hadarca.
His party colleague Ana Gutu said that Russia is trying to maintain its authority over the countries that formed part of the Soviet empire. Dmitri Rogozin neglected certain diplomatic norms in his speech and was ‘slightly impudent’. “We must not become involved in conflicts. It will be impossible to change the foreign policy direction that will be set at the Vilnius Summit. Rogozin said that winter is coming, but we say that the Vilnius Summit and Europe is coming. Our future, Moldova’s future is in Europe,” stated Ana Gutu.
According to lawmaker Valeriu Saharneanu, such attacks on the part of Russia are not aimed against Moldova only, but also against most of the EaP member states, which make common cause with Moldova.
The members of the Liberal Reforming Party consider that the Russian Deputy Prime Minister should be declared persona non grata after saying in Transnistria that the Russian army will never leave the region, while Moldova’s path to European integration is a long one.
Dmitri Rogozin made an official visit to Chisinau and Tiraspol on September 2-3.
