The chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Iurie Ciocan said the quality of the electoral rolls in the local general elections of this June was much better than in the previous elections, but the participation of voters with temporary residence continues to be a key problem. In a post-electoral conference, Iurie Ciocan said that a series of legislative initiatives will be put forward in a move to overcome the shortcomings encountered at the previous elections, IPN reports.
The CEC chairman noted that the goal of the conference is to analyze the organization and holding of the local general elections of 2015. The event brought together national and foreign experts who formed part of election observation missions, judges and persons who worked in the electoral system, representatives of local and central public authorities, election contenders, media outlets, civil society and of the CEC’s development partners.
The participants during two days will discuss the role of the registers of voters in ensuring a correct and transparent electoral process, transparency in financing election campaigns and parties and validation of the elections and of the seats of local elected officials. At the end of the conference, the participants will formulate conclusions and recommendations.
The post-electoral conference entitled “Role of the registers of voters in ensuring a correct and transparent electoral process” will continue on October 6.
