If the supply of gas to Moldova from the Russian Federation stops, it will be a catastrophe, director of the market Economy Institute Roman Chirca stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
According to him, the Kuchurgan power plant will be thus unable to produce electricity. At the same time, there is no risk that the gas supply to Moldova and even to Ukraine will be stopped, even if the Russian Federation terminated the contracts for the supply of gas with Ukraine. “As such a scenario can exist hypothetically, precaution measures and exceptional scenarios are needed,” stated Roman Chirca.
Analyst Victor Gurau said the Republic of Moldova should learn the lesson and the authorities should stop making political promises. “In 2012, they promised to build the Chisinau-Ungheni gas pipeline and only in 2018 adopted a systemic and pragmatic approach in this regard. Now that the processes were launched, the burden falls on Transgaz and the Government of Romania,” said the analyst. Victor Gurau also considers the supplies of gas from Russia to Moldova will not be stopped.
