The management of the Romania-based firm Carpat Belaz Service, which mediated the purchase of 102 trolleybuses for Chisinau municipality, are complaining that certain allegations made during the ongoing mayoral race in relation to the deal have disparaged its reputation. At a Wednesday news conference, the manager of the company, Sergiu Tocaru, read a statement which says that the recent press reports concerning the trolleybus deal have put the company in a bad light. A negative image of the company has been created, from which it appears that the company engages in questionable affairs, that it is on the verge of bankruptcy, that it has huge debts, and that it brought damage to the Moldovan budget. According to Sergiu Tocaru, the actors that contributed to such an image have used false documents and evidence. “The allegations that Carpat Belaz Service is on the verge of bankruptcy are not true. The company doesn't undergo any insolvency procedures, its assets are not subject to any seizure or forfeiture, and is not involved in any litigation or arbitration with any of its clients over the payment of goods or services. Moreover, the company doesn't owe anything in tax liabilities”, said Sergiu Tocaru. “Regretfully, we can see that, in the fever of the ongoing election campaign, false documents have been presented and the reputation of our company has been intentionally damaged. (…) This is an attempt to deceive the voters, by offering imaginary acts of corruption”, he added. The company's legal department is examining the situation and soon it will be decided whether to take action against the electoral actors who made the allegations. Igor Dodon, the Communist candidate for mayor of Chisinau, has claimed more than once during the campaign that the Chisinau City Hall, then headed by Liberal Dorin Chirtoaca, inflated the price of the trolleybuses bought through Carpat Belaz Service, thus paying a surplus of 2.43 million euros of taxpayer money. In reaction, Chirtoaca stated that Dodon falsified evidence and requested a prosecutorial probe against him.
