The Romanian Language House “Nichita Stanescu” was again too small for the admirers of Mihai Eminescu. The exhibition “Centuries of Meditation” by painter Ion Daghi and a recital by the former Minister of Culture, director and actor Ion Ungureanu had held the attention of the visitors of the House for several hours, Info-Prim Neo reports.
All Ion Daghi's paintings conquered the public. But one of the paintings was exceptional. It represented Mihai Eminecu and Grigore Vieru in heaven embraced by an angel. “I painted Grigore Vieru after he passed away. I decided I must paint them both there, in heaven,” said the painter.
Though the event was dedicated to the great classical writer Mihai Eminescu, Grigore Vieru's name appeared instantaneously in the messages of the speakers. “Eminescu should be now regarded differently. We entered already a new stage,” said the director of the Romanian Language House Alexandru Bantos. “During the Soviet period, they allowed us to study only parts of Eminescu's work. The last 20 years were also confuse and we could not discover him fully. Now we have the possibility of analyzing thoroughly his work.”
Before the recital of poems by Eminescu, Ion Ungureanu invited the public to look at the poet through a different angle. “The reality is controversial. Sometimes we win victories, but we also suffer defeats. God puts us to the test. Eminescu encourages and helps us to win new victories,” he said.
Ion Ungureanu also said that Eminescu is commemorated in Moldova on a larger scale than in Romania because the Moldovan people's pain is greater.
