Russian foreign minister comes to Chisinau on November 22

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will pay a visit to Moldova on November 22. The issue was discussed in a meeting of Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Popov and his Russian counterpart Grigory Karasin in Chisinau on October 27, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the officials discussed a series of topical subjects concerning the bilateral dialogue, the cooperation in the economic and humanitarian spheres, and the Transnistrian issue. The two deputy ministers, who head the delegations to the Moldovan-Russian consultations, welcomed the decision to resume the formal talks in the 5+2 format that was taken in the September 22 meeting in Moscow. They also conferred on the prospects of resolving the Transnistrian dispute. Grigory Karasin reiterated Russia’s official position that the Transnistrian conflict should be settled by preserving Moldova’s territorial integrity. Andrei Popov and Grigory Karasin agreed a number of interministerial cooperation measures for 2012 in connection with the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Russia.
