School and rural libraries will be renewed

The book stock of about 40 school and rural libraries in Moldova will be renewed as part of the campaign “Send a Book over the Prut” that was carried out in Romania between December 2009 and January 2010. The campaign was organized by the League of Bessarabian Students in Romania in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Transport of Moldova., Info-Prim Neo reports. “The books collected in Romania will be distributed to the libraries that lack books in Latin script. Two-three years ago, the books in Latin script constituted 20-30% of the total. The young people in villages must find the books they need and make reading one of their main occupations,” Minister of Youth and Sport Ion Cebanu said in a news conference held to sum up the results of the campaign. Tudor Cojocaru, the head of the League of Bessarabian Students in Romania and the similar organization in Bucharest, said there was collected a wide variety of books that meet most of the demands of the teachers and school heads who had been questioned during the campaign. The collection includes textbooks, scientific, artistic and classical literature, fiction, history books, etc. The first batch comprises 3,000 volumes. They have been already distributed to villages and schools in Soroca, Glodeni, Anenii Noi and Drochia districts. The books were collected from the League of Bessarabian Students' partners that include private individuals and legal entities.
