Screening on Customs Union chapter takes place in Brussels

Bilateral screening on Chapter 29 "Customs Union" is taking place in Brussels within the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union. The meeting will last for two days, April 7 and 8, IPN reports.

"The implementation of policies in this area will help us develop the country's economy, increase trade with EU states, simplify customs procedures for citizens and the business community and thus integrate into the European Single Market," Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gerasimov said in a video message.

The European Integration Office noted that the implementation of the provisions of this chapter will enable "to benefit from access to a common market of hundreds of millions of consumers, which supports the development of local businesses and attracts foreign investors."

Moldovan products will reach the European market more easily through the elimination of customs duties for trade within the EU. The implementation of policies in this area will also bring lower prices for imported products and a wider range of goods available to consumers in the country.

By simplifying and digitizing customs products, fewer documents will be required and the waiting time at the border will be significantly reduced.

"We will have greater security at the country's borders, which will protect the internal market from counterfeit or unsafe products," Customs Service director Alexandru Iacub said in the same video.

The bilateral screening of Chapter 19 “Social Policy and Employment” took place in Brussels on April 3-4.
