The second round of voting will be held in two weeks in 458 settlements, where none of the candidates for mayor polled more than 50% of the vote, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Central Election Commission (CEC).
The elections in Ulmu village of Ialoveni district and Topala village of Cimislia district will be rerun in two weeks. In the first village the minimum voter turnout was lower than 25%, while in the second village the electoral process was interrupted.
On June 14, mayors were elected in 438 settlements. The seats at country level were distributed as follows:
The Liberal Democratic Party – 181 mayors,
The Democratic Party – 147,
The Party of Communists – 31,
The Party of Socialists – 22,
The Liberal Party – 13,
The Electoral Bloc “European People’s Platform of Moldova – Iurie Leanca” – 7,
The Our Party – 2,
The Social-Political Movement “Ravnopravie” – 1,
Independent candidates – 34.
In ten settlements, the candidates for the mayoralty won 100% of the vote. In all these cases, there was only one contestant written on the ballot.
The CEC said the given information is not yet final.
In the local general elections of June 5, 2011, in the first round there were elected the mayors of 645 settlements.
