The Center for the Protection of Fundamental Rights “Sirius” and the public association “Centenarul” call on the people to come to the Great National Assembly Square on March 25 and vote the statement on the recognition of the Union Act of March 27, 1918. Also then, they would call on the legislative bodies of Moldova and Romania to vote for the country’s reunification by joining again Bessarabia to Romania in the common meeting of March 27.
In a news conference at IPN, the representative of “Sirius” Anatolie Petrici said an application to this effect, signed by over 1 million Romanian citizens from Bessarabia, was registered with the Parliament of Romania and the Parliament of Moldova. The application complies with the legislation on petitioning and should be mandatorily examined and the authorities should give an answer.
According to Anatolie Petrici, all those who were born on the territory of Romania, in Bessarabia, and their descendants, are Romanian citizens and they do not need to regain the nationality. At the same time, all the events that took place after June 28, 1940 on the territory where the Republic of Moldova is situated now do not have legal effects as this territory can belong to Romania only.
The representative of “Centenarul” Ion Rata said that history will be made in Chisinau on March 25 and those who will take part will be mentioned in the history textbooks that will be used by children in the future. The citizens should realize that the vote in which they will take part will have legitimacy before the authorities of both of the states.
Stefan Sofronovici, scientific researcher at the Institute of Philology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, said the union is the desideratum of the people from Bessarabia. “Documents say we legitimately hold Romanian nationality and are Romanians. That’s why our authorities should not quarrel between them and should think about solutions to the questions that appear. If the two Parliaments declare the union, nothing bad will happen. If Germany could unite, why could we not?” he stated.
Earlier, members of “Sirius” called upon the unionist NGOs to create a body that will decide the program of the March 25 event. They also invited the senior state officials to the assembly in the center of Chisinau.
