Socialists call for urgent City Council meeting
The Socialists are calling for an urgent meeting of the Chisinau City Council to discuss banning a pro-unification march scheduled for September 16. The Socialist group in the Council has prepared a draft decision to this effect that will be submitted to the Council for consideration, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Socialists have expressed their hope that the intention to forbid the procession in Chisinau will be supported by the Communist group as well. To convene an urgent meeting of the City Council, at least 17 councilors must endorse a petition to this effect and submit it to the City Hall's Secretariat. The Socialists have only two representatives in the Council and they are counting on the Communists' support.
Earlier the Communist city councilors also wrote an open letter to Dorin Chirtoaca and Alliance councilors requesting a ban on the pro-unification march.
The civic movement “Actiunea 2012” said that around 10,000 people are expected to participate in the September 16 march to call for unification with Romania. The organizers also requested the Ministry of Interior to guarantee their safety and the right to freedom of expression.
