The Socialist parliamentary group asks to convoke Parliament for an extraordinary sitting where to examine the presence of NATO soldiers on Moldova’s territory. The leader of the Party of Socialists Igor Dodon told a news conference that the legislature’s sitting must take place on May 10 and the ministers of defense, of the interior, of foreign affairs and the director of the Security and Intelligence Service should be questioned there, IPN reports.

The Socialists’ leader said that Parliament recently adopted a statement on the inviolability of the sovereignty, independence and permanent neutrality of the Republic of Moldova by the votes of 62 Communist, Socialist, Democratic and ex-Communist MPs. The coming of NATO soldiers to Moldova increases the risk of separatist tendencies in the country and represents defiance of the national interests.

Igor Dodon noted that they prepared an application that was signed by 24 Socialist MPs. Ten more signatures are needed for the meeting to be convened. Therefore, the MPs of the other groups will also be asked to sign it.

The Socialists also ask the Head of State to convoke the Supreme Security Council so that the subject could be discussed by this too. “The deployment of troops, the planned maneuvers, including the exhibition of military vehicles in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on May 9, must be banned immediately. The President has the prerogative and all the powers in this regard. We hope that he will show initiative and will make use of his constitutional rights and obligations towards the end of his term at least,” stated Igor Dodon.

On May 3, U.S. soldiers and military machinery entered Moldova to take part in military drills on May 3-20 and in the exhibition set to be mounted in the center of Chisinau on May 9. Socialist MPs, together with activists of the Young Guard, blocked the U.S. soldiers in the Sculeni customs post for an hour and checked their papers. Ultimately, these continued their way.
