Soldiers do not vote in elections
The young persons who do their military service do not take part in the local elections. Such a restriction of the right to vote is stipulated in Article 123 of the Election Code.
Alexandru Josan, head of the Ministry of Defense’s press service, has told Info-Prim Neo that polling places for soldiers were set up on the territory of the military units in the November 2010 parliamentary elections.
This is impossible in the local elections as the law provides that the persons who do not live in a certain territorial-administrative unit cannot elect the local council and the mayor.
More than 2,000 young people from all over Moldova do their military service in the armed forces.
