A part of the participants in the Great Citizens Assembly of August 26 continued the protest at the night. The people put up tents and laid blankets and sat on the benches near the Monument to Ruler Stephan the Great. According to the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu, who was among the protesters, the people will spend the night there and will then lay flowers at the monument in the morning of August 27. She called on all those who want to struggle against dictatorship to join in the event as of 8am, IPN reports.

According to Maia Sandu, the protest will continue until the demands formulated by the National Citizens Assembly on the first day of the protest are fulfilled. The politician commented on the counterdemonstration staged by the Shor Party in the Great National Assembly Square simultaneously with the protest mounted by the National Resistance Movement ACUM, saying embittered people were used by irresponsible and corrupt politicians in this event. “They hoped provocations will be created, but we didn’t allow to be provoked,” Maia Sandu said in a video on Facebook.

Thousands of people took part in the protest staged by the National Resistance Movement ACUM in the central square of Chisinau on August 26. The Great Citizens Assembly adopted a resolution by which the protesters demand that the Filip Government should resign. The executive is accused of the progressive worsening of the situation of the people, antidemocratic deviations, the failure of the European integration policies and the international isolation of the Republic of Moldova. The protesters also demanded to organize free and fair parliamentary elections based on the proportional representation system that, according to them, ensures high representation in the current conditions of the Republic of Moldova and to validate the June 3 Chisinau mayoral elections.
