Special sitting of legislature held behind closed doors

The lawmakers decided that the June 20 sitting of Parliament will take place behind closed doors. The sitting centers on the situation in the Transnistrian region, IPN reports.

The proposal to allow the press to attend was put forward by the Communist MPs, but the parliamentary majority rejected it, arguing they want to prevent theater scenes in Parliament.

According to the Communist lawmakers, the situation on the left bank of the Nistru causes hysteria in society and the people have the right to see personally what the MPs say about this. “This decision (to hold the sitting behind closed doors) was passed before President Nicolae Timofti, who says that he is the guarantor of the Constitution,” the leader of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin said in a press briefing.

The Communist lawmakers remained to attend the sitting.
