The protesters seek the resignation of Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet because this insulted them, former ECHR judge Stanislav Pavlovschi, one of the founders of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth”, said in the program “Place for Dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.
“Strelet’s resignation was asked in the last moment. Initially, it didn’t form part of the demands. The Prime Minister insulted the people by not wanting to meet with their representatives and by not coming before the crowd. When the protesters were informed about this, they started to shout “Resignation!”. We had to include the Premier’s resignation in the proclamation adopted by the Great National Assembly,” explained Pavlovschi.
He noted that the role of the Platform “Dignity and Truth” was to unite the protesters, while the decision to protest was taken by the people. “The stealing of billions of lei from the banking system and its consequences, the 30% rise in inflation and the increase in the tariffs on energy resources were the decisive factors. The protest is staged by the people, not by the Platform. The situation is catastrophic. 100,000 people will not come to the central square of Chisinau without having a serious reason,” stated Pavlovschi.
