Stanislav Sorbalo’s resignation is political show, CEC president
The resignation of the chairman of the Balti district electoral council is a political show, the president of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Iurie Ciocan has told Info-Prim Neo.
“When you do not agree with a certain decision, you can make use of legal ways. He does not aim to solve the problem legally. He only wants a PR campaign,” said Iurie Ciocan.
Stanislav Sorbalo resigned on May 4 in protest at the Central Election Commission's decision whereby the Balti electoral authority is obliged to register three independent candidates rejected in a previous meeting because they presented false signatures.
According to Iurie Ciocan, the CEC’s decision is legal. Nine member of the Commission voted in favor of obliging the Balti district electoral council to return to normality as it violated the right to run in elections of three persons.
Stanislav Sorbalo stated for Info-Prim Neo that he does not understand how they can register a candidate who submitted falsified documents and how persons who are abroad or who do not exist in Moldova could put their signatures on the list.
