The National Museum of History on Saturday, August 27, inaugurated an exhibition whose main highlight is the battle flag of Stephen the Great and Saint, perhaps the most revered historical figure in both Moldova and neighboring Romania, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by numerous Moldovan and Romanian officials. “Exhibiting the battle flag of Stephen the Great in Chisinau is an act of great importance for our country. This flag is part of the common national heritage of Romania and Moldova”, stated Moldovan Prime Minister Vlad Filat, adding that its transfer from Bucharest to Chisinau was possible due to an intense cooperation between the Romanian and Moldovan embassies.
“Stephen the Great's flag, though leaving from Bucharest to Chisinau, is still at home”, stated Romania's Ambassador Marius Lazurca.
The flag depicts St. George seated on a throne sided by two angels and is dated to 1500. It was brought to Chisinau on August 24 at a cost of 300,000 lei.
The flag will remain on display at the National Museum until September 10 and will be transported back to Bucharest on September 12. Entrance is free.
