Syrian arrested in Moldova for taking children illegally out of country
A Syrian national is accused of organizing the illegal migration of three Iraqi citizens and taking their children out of Moldova illegally. For 20,000 lei, the Syrian together with other persons, including foreign citizens, arranged the leaving of the Iraqis to countries of the Schengen area through Romania, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG).
The Centru District Court granted the prosecutors’ request and placed the accused under arrest for 30 days. The PG, in cooperation with the Romanian authorities, are continuing the investigations in order to identify all the persons involved in this case and hold them accountable.
The Syrian has been in Moldova since 2006. He administers two public places in Chisinau. He faces 7 to 12 years in jail for organizing the illegal taking of children out of the country.
As many as 375 cases of human trafficking have been recorded in Moldova in the first ten months of this year.
