Thirty-nine monuments destroyed in Chisinau during one year
The bill on the protection of the archeological patrimony is designed to stop the disappearance of the monuments that have an incontestable value. The abrogation of the Register of Chisinau's Monuments in 2009 led to the irrecoverable loss of 39 monuments during one year, Sergiu Musteata, the chairman of the National Association of Young Historians, said in the final conference of the project “The policy on archeological patrimony protection in Moldova: reality and necessity”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The authors of the bill said the document was proposed for public debates and was discussed with experts from Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Germany and the U.S.
The project was launched on May 15, 2009. Among its objectives were to establish a durable partnership with the local public administration to formulate and implement policies aimed at protecting the archeological patrimony, to work out national strategies and set up functional institutions that would protect the archeological heritage.
Some of these objectives could not be achieved initially, said Sergiu Musteata. “The previous Government even banned the local authorities from cooperating with the Association. We can prove this as we have documents signed by a former Deputy Premier. It was a relief for us when the new Government was invested,” he said.
The project was implemented by the National Association of Young Historians with the financial support of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and Soros Foundation-Moldova.
