Three former officers of the Antidrug Division of the Ministry of the Interior are accused of kidnapping, ill-treating and killing a 50-year-old man. Prosecutors accuse them of trying to obtain US$15,000 from the man, who collected the money for buying an apartment. The case was sent to court and the former policemen face 12 to 20 years behind bars or life imprisonment if they are found guilty. Prosecutor Octavian Narea, of the Exceptional Cases Investigation Division of the Prosecutor General’s Office, told a news conference that the three policemen were also accused of misuse of power and kidnapping when they were in office. But they were acquitted then. The Prosecutor General’s Office collected new proofs showing that the three intentionally murdered a person, who went missing over two years ago. According to the prosecution, the former police officers in December 2010 found out about the man’s intention to change his apartment situated in Bender for an apartment in Chisinau and pay an additional sum of US$15,000. Telling the victim that he has to validate the documents, the three called him to Chisinau. Knowing that the victim was wanted by the Transnistrian militia, the three officers arrested him. Octavian Narea said that the victim didn’t have a criminal record, while the acts of the Transnistrian bodies were illegal. The former policemen beat the man and took him to an unknown location by a car of the Antidrug Division. After that, the man’s nephew announced him missing. The man’s body was found on September 8, 2011. The man was killed and thrown into a well located along the Dubasari-Vadul-lui-Voda road. He was in the clothes in which he was dressed when he went missing. The case was recently remitted to the court of Rascani district of Chisinau. The three former police officers were investigated outside prison.
