President Nicolae Timofti, who paid a two-day visit to Belarus, said the countries should develop the bilateral dialogue and cooperation between business, scientific and cultural circles in the commercial-economic sphere. “I mean joint projects in such sectors as agro-industry, energy, transport and infrastructure. The participation by our countries in different free trade areas offers mutually advantageous possibilities that we can use to create joint enterprises,” stated Nicolae Timofti. In Minsk, the head of state had discussions with the President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko, which were followed by a meeting of the delegations of the two states, IPN reports.
Timofti said the Moldovan products cane enter the Eastern market with the assistance of Belarus. In the same way, Moldova can help the Belarusian companies establish additional economic ties with the EU. The assembling of Belarusian trolleybuses in Chisinau is an example of efficient cooperation between Moldova and Belarus. “We agreed today to extend this project. We will also assemble MAZ buses in Moldova. We also considered the possibility of increasing the exports of fruit, vegetables and bottled wine to Belarus,” said the head of state.
The two officials approved of the activity and positive role of the intergovernmental Moldovan-Belarusian commission for commercial – economic cooperation, which is an effective instrument for promoting the commercial-economic relations between the two states.
“At political level, we exchanged opinions about the international and regional situation. We reiterated the commitment to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our states. We are for solving the security-related problems based on generally accepted principles and norms of the international law. I’m sure that the agreements reached and documents signed during this visit will help to significantly extend the cooperation between Moldova and Belarus. We confirmed our readiness to make all the efforts needed to achieve a qualitatively new level in the bilateral relations,” said Nicolae Timofti.
Alexandr Lukashenko visited Moldova last autumn, when the two countries signed six cooperation agreements in different areas.
