All tires intended for motor vehicles are to be mandatorily labelled. The tire label will contain the QR code for quick access to the European database, name or trademark of the supplier, tire code, tire size specifications, load capacity index and speed rating symbol, according to the UN standards, IPN reports.
The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Technical Tire Labelling Regulation worked out by the Ministry of Energy. The document updates the legal rules on tire labelling in relation to fuel efficiency, wet grip and external rolling noise.
The label will also include the tire class (C1, C2 or C3), fuel efficiency icon indicating the performance class and wet grip icon.
“Tire labelling will provide consumers with essential information about the performance of tires, thus making it easier for vehicle owners to make informed and responsible decisions. It is estimated that these measures will reduce total fuel consumption by about 1%, which is equivalent to an annual reduction of 88 million tonnes of CO2 at the European level,” said the Ministry of Energy.
The technical regulation will enter into force 11 months after the date of publication in the Official Gazette so that tire distributors and suppliers have enough time to comply with the new requirements. Existing stocks of tires will be exempted from these rules for a period of 12 months.
