Tourist trips grow dearer

The prices of tourist journeys got dearer by 5-15% on average compared with last year, the president of the National Association of Travel Agencies of Moldova, Nicolae Platon, told a news conference. The rise stems from the higher fares that increased from 0.32 lei to 0.42 lei/passenger kilometer as from April 1, Info-Prim Neo reports. Representatives of travel agencies say that the Moldovan tourists choose mainly such basic destinations as Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, and Ukraine. Those that want to holiday in Turkey this year will pay 350 euros for accommodations in a half-pension hotel that includes breakfast, dinner, plane ticket and insurance. The Moldovans that prefer Ukraine will pay about 170-180 US dollars for a week at a one or two-star hotel. According to Nicolae Platon, the number of Moldovans that visited other countries in 2007 increased to 82,000. The number of foreign tourists that visit Moldova rose insignificantly, to 14,700 a year. One tourist that comes to Moldova spends an average of 187 US dollars a day. Twenty tourist routes were recommended in 2008 to the economic entities that want to develop the internal and ingoing tourism, Nicolae Platon said.
