The political control over justice is the greatest risk faced by Moldova in the European integration process, President of Romania Traian Basescu said in a meeting with civil society representatives in Chisinau on July 17, IPN reports.
Traian Basescu said that Moldova needs democratic justice. A state with the rule of law cannot function correctly when the powers are not balanced, when Parliament, the Government or the legal system are subordinate to each other.
“There should be order inside justice too as a corrupt legal system is more dangerous than a controlled one. If the justice is independent in a state, society goes on even if the politicians are weaker,” added the Romanian head of state.
Traian Basescu had been in Moldova on a visit, at the invitation of Presidion Nicolae Timofti.
