Traian Basescu still suspended
Romanian President Traian Basescu is still suspended. On Thursday, August 2, the Constitutional Court has postponed adopting a decision on the validity of the July 29 referendum until September 12, reports Info-Prim Neo, quoting www.meadiafax.ro.
Comments on the results of the referendum were postponed once more on Wednesday evening, when the meeting of the Constitutional Court requested information necessary to analyze the appeals from the Ministry of Administration and Interior and the National Institute of Statistics. Today morning, starting with 9am, the debates on the appeals and the confirmation of the referendum results were continued.
Traian Basescu stated on Wednesday evening that he knew that a decision on the referendum would be adopted on Thursday, and that this postponement did not bother him.
The turnout at the July 29 referendum on the dismissal of Romanian President Traian Basescu was of 46.24%; 87.52% of the participants voted for the dismissal of Traian Basescu, and 11.15% were against, according to the final data presented on Wednesday by the Central Electoral Bureau.
The Constitutional Court is the institution that will validate or invalidate the results of the referendum. The decision is to be adopted by a supermajority vote.
