Transnistrian leader meets with U.S. ambassador to Moldova

The Transnistrian leader Vadim Krasnoselski on February 13 had a meeting with the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova James D. Pettit, where the first thanked the American official for the attention devoted to the Transnistrian issue and voiced hope that the dialogue will be continued in a positive manner, IPN reports, quoting the local press.

“We welcome your participation in the negotiation process in the 5+2 format. A lot of problems on which the people’s life depends accumulated. I impatiently wait for a positive dialogue,” stated Krasnoselski. The Transnistrian leader noted that the compromise is the most important thing in any relationship and underlined the necessity of mutual compromise.

For his part, the American diplomat stressed the importance of the completion of the electoral processes on both sides of the Nistru and voiced hope that the new leaders will offer new opportunities for improving the relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol. “I’m very optimistic about this. I think the new viewpoints will contribute to improving the situation. We hope that progress will be made in this area soon. For our part, we make effort to convince the partners in Chisinau that they should act positively in this regard,” stated James D. Pettit.

The ambassador noted that he realizes the gravity of the economic and political challenges with which the Transnistrian region should cope, adding patience and a new view are needed to go on.
