Two border crossing points on Moldovan-Ukrainian frontier closed

Two border crossing points situated on the frontier between Moldova and Ukraine were temporarily closed following the rise in the water level of the Nistru. In a communique, the Borer Guard Service says the border crossing points are Cosauti – Iampoli and Soroca – Tsekinovka. The border in this direction can be crossed through the points Ocnita – Sochireni and Briceni – Rososeni. In order to avoid queues, the number of border inspectors was increased. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Ludmila Serenko, division head at the State Hydrometeorlogy Service, said the water level of the Nistru increased by 3 meters during the last two days, but is now decreasing. “There is currently no danger. The water level of the Prut rose by 2.5 meters and then fell by 1 meter,” Ludmila Serenko said. The Borer Guard Service will announce when the border crossing points will be reopened. Additional information can be obtained on the hotline 022 259 – 675.
