The parliamentary majority continues to shrink. Liberal-Democratic MPs Mihaela Spataru and Gheorghe Mocanu announced they will not vote the first deputy head of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc Prime Minister. Several hours ago, two more Lib-Dems of the seven that joined the parliamentary majority stated that they will not vote for the candidate proposed by the Democrats, IPN reports.
In a statement, Gheorghe Mocanu and Mihaela Spataru say the Republic of Moldova must have a pro-European government that will implement the Association Agreement with the EU and its formation would have allowed avoiding early elections and the coming of forces that want to change the country’s development course to power.
“Our conviction of the necessity of forming a government resulted from the numerous consultations, including with the most important foreign partners that are for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova. However, the latest developments on the political arena and the insistence by which the coalition members promote a particular candidate destabilize society. The politicians cannot act against the will of the people. In this connection, we announce that we will not vote the current candidate for Prime Minister,” says the statement.
The two also say that they are not blackmailable and do not have other commitments that would influence their decisions. “We are free to act by our own conscience. We thank the persons who were near us in this period. We are convinced that time will show the justness and correctness of all the taken decisions,” stated the MPs.
Earlier, seven Liberal-Democratic MPs announced that they will support the candidate for premiership that will be proposed by the Democratic Party and joined the parliamentary majority formed by the Democrats, Liberals and the former Communists. Four of the 56 MPs who joined the majority announced their withdrawal.
