Two new books on case law presented in Chisinau

Two new books on case law in Romanian were presented at the National Library in Chisinau on October 15. The books are [{“Human Rights and the Penal Procedure: Case Law of the European Court of Human Rights”}] by the Council of Europe official Jeremy McBride and [{“Freedom of Expression in Europe: Case Law on Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights”}], which is an update of the publication “Freedom of Expression in Europe” issued in 2002, Info-Prim Neo reports. The first book has been translated into 14 languages. It is a textbook for judges, lawyers and prosecutors that includes extracts from the most important decisions over violations committed in investigation and other legal procedures passed by the ECHR and the European Commission of Human Rights, said Lilia Snegureac, the head of the Council of Europe Information Office in Moldova. The books can be used as sources of information about case law, said Igor Serbinov, deputy prosecutor general. He voiced hope that the number of cases lost by Moldova at the ECHR will decrease after the two books are studied. Ion Oboroceanu, the head of the Law Center in Causeni, said such publications are useful as the normative framework on the protection of human rights in Moldova is broadly similar with that of the Council of Europe and other international organizations. The books were issued in 1,000 copies and will be distributed to Chisinau schools.
