Verkhovna Rada Chairman and Acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov said that Ukraine and Moldova chose one way – the European integration – and voiced hope that this objective will be achieved. The statements were made in a meeting with Moldova’s Prime Minister Iurie Leanca in Kiev, IPN reports.
Oleksandr Turchynov said that Ukraine appreciates Moldova’s support in a moment when it faces a separatism problem. “We count on Moldova’s support further. We know that your country went through a similar situation. Our states have the same history; we are connected by friendship relations and chose the same way – the European integration. I hope we will succeed,” stated the official.
Iurie Leanca said the Government of Moldova follows the developments in Ukraine with concern and does not recognize the results of the so-called referendum held in Crimea. Moldova approves of the Ukrainian authorities’ intention to peacefully solve the problem that arouse in the peninsula.
The Moldovan Premier met with his Ukrainian counterpart Arseny Yatseniuk. “There are many problems that we must solve in concert. We will go together along the path to European integration,” said the head of the Ukrainian Government. The interlocutors conferred on the Transnistrian issue, underlining the necessity of continuing the conflict settlement talks so as to agree a special status for the Transnistrian region as a component part of Moldova.
Iurie Leanca also had a meeting with Ukrainian MP Pyotr Poroshenko, who said that the Moldovan Premier’s visit represents a gesture of solidarity with Ukraine. “We feel permanently Moldova’s support and want to overcome this crisis situation,” he stated. The two officials discussed possibilities of continuing the political dialogue at all the levels and of strengthening cooperation in the economic and energy sectors.
