The United States donated 20 sets of equipment for phytosanitary control laboratories to the National Food Safety Agency. The donation certificates were handed over to the heads of 10 district food safety divisions and 10 sanitary-veterinary and phytosanitary checkpoints, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government.
Ambassador William Moser said the equipment will enable Moldova to improve its capacity to guarantee food safety and the quality required by international standards. “Today’s event forms part of the U.S. investment of $114 million for strengthening the capacities for increasing exports of Moldovan products,” stated the diplomat.
According to Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, the equipment will adjust the National Food Safety Agency’s apparatus to the European requirements. “We must make sure that the products bought by our consumers are safe and ecological,” he stated.
The sets include computers, photo cameras, printers and scanners, planachromatic microscopes, digital cameras for microscopes, refrigerators with freezers and electrical scales. The U.S. Government invested about $160,000 in the equipment and technical accessories.
