Eric Cantor, US House of Representatives Republican Majority Leader, has accepted the invitation of Moldovan Senior Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc to visit Moldova, reports Info-Prim Neo, quoting a communiqué from the Moldovab Parliament.
The invitation was given during the meeting Vlad Plahotniuc had with Eric Cantor, at the end of his visit to the USA. The officials discussed about the relations between the USA and Moldova, aspects concerning the intensification of relations in at parliamentary level, the reforms taking place in our country, the combat against corruption, about the Transnistrian conflict settlement, as well as about the opportunities that Moldova can offer to American investors.
A separate subject was the Moldovan political system reform. Vlad Plahotniuc presented the American Congressman his initiative on introducing uninominal voting, as well as the initiative on the transparency of political party financing. Eric Cantor found these initiatives “necessary and beneficial”.
The Senior Deputy Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament and the Republican Leader from the US Congress House of Representatives have extensively discussed about our country’s economic situation, and the American official assured that the USA is ready to further actively support Moldova’s economic development. In this context, Eric Cantor announced that he will support our country’s removal from the Jackson Vanik amendment, which currently restricts commerce with Moldova, as well as with Russia and other states from the former Socialist bloc.
