The Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor general of Chisinau municipality Valeriu Munteanu said a part of the points from the electoral program of the candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase run counter to provisions of the Association Agreement with the EU. Munteanu made such statements in electoral debates announced by him and to which he invited Andrei Nastase, but this didn’t come to them, IPN reports.
The Liberal candidate said that he decided to invite his opponent to the debates after he attentively analyzed the electoral program of the election runners. “I discovered with surprise that the program of Silvia Radu, the candidate of the Democratic Party and, in particular, of Mister Plahotniuc (who was registered as an independent candidate in the race, e.n.), is not a program in general. It is a note simpler than a report compiled by a fourth grader. Mister Ceban’s program is even clearer. He intends to remove people from the City Hall based on ethnic criteria, to clean up as during the rule of Stalin and to separate the suburbs from Chisinau. But what saddened me the most was the program of Mister Nastase, which goes against the Association Agreement, and about which I wanted today to discuss with Mister Nastase,” stated the Liberal candidate.
Valeriu Munteanu noted that under the Association Agreement, the municipalities and the central administration of the country cannot provide state benefits without the prior consent of the European Commission so as to avoid the spoiling of competition by favoring the beneficiary entities. Andrei Nastase’s program contains many points that run counter to the Agreement, such as the formulation of policies to directly and indirectly subsidize the business entities that will reconstruct old buildings, on the purchase of season tickets to gyms and the assisting of the business community in installing photovoltaic panels on roofs of apartment buildings.
“These are provisions that go against the Association Agreement, which is fundamental for the Republic of Moldova. I say this because I know these provisions. It’s a pity that others didn’t notice them. I’m not only as a person who voted the Association Agreement in Moldova’s Parliament. I’m also one of those who attentively studied this Agreement and I’m concerned about its implementation,” stated Valeriu Munteanu. According to him, the program of Andrei Nastase contains projects that are already under implementation, such as the construction of a wastewater treatment station and the thermal insulation of buildings.
The Liberal candidate said he will give Andrei Nastase one more chance to take part in electoral debates together. “I accept to come to debates on Jurnal TV and, if he feels most comfortable when the debate is moderated by journalist Vasile Nastase, I accept to come to such a debate. This should only take place and should last for at least one hour and a half so that we could debate things and the people see where there is substance and where there is no substance,” he noted.
Valeriu Munteanu concluded by saying that he is the most representative candidate for whom the inhabitants of Chisinau should give their vote. His electoral program is the only one worked out in accordance with the Association Agreement with the European Union, with the EU Treaty and the requirements of the development partners, such as
Romania, the EU, the EBRD and EIB. He knows the real problems in Chisinau and knows real solutions to these. He has the necessary training compared with other candidates who do not know Moldova’s legislation and the affairs at the City Hall.
