Valeriu Strelet presented the resignation of the Government to the head of state after Parliament on October 29 voted in favor of the no-confidence motion. Within three days, President Nicolae Timofti is to name an acting Premier, IPN reports.
“Under the law, the resignation is tendered within three days of the adoption of the no-confidence motion. I discussed the prospects and the next steps with the head of state. He will decide who will hold the post of Prime Minister on an interim basis. He is to have discussions with the Deputy Prime Ministers,” stated Valeriu Strelet, noting that he cannot hold this post in virtue of the Constitutional Court decision of 2013, which says that a Premier dismissed based on suspected acts of corruption cannot be fielded again for this post.
After announcing that the Lib-Dems will not take part in the negotiations on the formation of a new ruling alliance on October 30, Valeriu Strelet said the Democrats probably prepared several plans for creating a new parliamentary majority, with and without the participation of the PLDM. “The blame for the way things develop in the country is fully borne by the PDM,” he stated.
As to a possible coalition of the PLDM with the parties of the left – the Party of Communists and the Party of Socialists – Valeriu Strelet said such an idea is completely absurd.
