Vasili Chirtoca: Politics and coalitions are not needed in CMC

The leader of the Communist faction in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) Vasili Chirtoca considers there is no place for politics and coalitions between parties in the Council.  According to him, the formation of a majority alliance would block the opposition’s initiatives and this could hinder the approval of decisions aimed at solving the problems of the residents of Chisinau.

Contacted by IPN, Vasili Chirtoca said the situation in the CMC was discussed inside the Communist faction and inside the Party of Communists too. They reached the conclusion that the representatives of all the parties must cooperate inside the Council. The councilors should only examine draft decisions and adopt decisions that will contribute to the development of the municipality and to solving the existing problems.

The councilor noted that the faction he heads intends to present a series of initiatives that they hope will be supported by their colleagues. For their part, the Communist councilors are ready to support any initiative, regardless of who submits it, if it is really useful to the city.

In the June 14 local elections, the Party of Socialists won 19 seats in the CMC, the Liberal Party – 17 seats, the Electoral Bloc “European People’s Party – Iurie Leanca” – six seats, the Our Party – three seats, the Party of Communists – three seats, the Liberal Democratic Party – two seats, while the Democratic Party – one seat. The representatives of four parties (PL, PPEM, PLDM and PDM), who have together 26 seats, announced that they are holding negotiations to form a pro-European majority coalition. The agreement is to be signed by the next meeting of the CMC, set for September 3.
