The new local elections are a rehearsal for the parliamentary elections of this autumn, analyst Victor Ciobanu stated in the program “Expertise hour” on Jurnal TV channel. He noted that the new local elections are very important from political viewpoint, IPN reports.

According to him, these elections will be first about politics and secondly about the managerial skills. “We will not get rid of politics in these elections,” stated Victor Ciobanu. He noted that the main struggle will be between the government associated with the Democratic Party, the Party of Socialists that organizes its voters rather well and the parties of the right that are yet expected to take a decision about the fielding of a common candidate.

Journalist Igor Volnitski said Chisinau should be managed by a person who will be both a politician and a good manager. “The best solution is to have a mayor with development views and programs, who knows the problems of the citizens and how to solve them, but we should not neglect the political importance of the Chisinau City Hall,” he stated.

Expert Veaceslav Ionita noted the probability that the new local elections in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti will not be validated owing to the low voter turnout is low. Those who are in power manage the current situation rather ably. “I see very clear and definite steps taken by them. On the part of the democratic opposition, I would like to see more certainty and firmness in action. I’ve got the impression that they try to catch the wave and to react to the situation,” stated Veaceslav Ionita. He added that even if the term of the future mayors will be of only a year, the value of the upcoming new elections should not be neglected.  

The new local mayoral elections in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti will take place on May 20.
