Constitutional Court judge Victoria Iftodi is suggested by the Democratic Party (PDM) for the post of minister of justice following the resignation tendered by Alexandru Tanase. The announcement was made by the Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc in a press briefing after the March 13 meeting of the party, IPN reports.
Vlad Plahotniuc said Prime Minister Pavel Filip is to request President Igor Dodon to name Victoria Iftodi as minister of justice by a decree. Later, the Government will have to nominate a new judge at the Constitutional Court.
Alexandru Tanase on March 11 announced that he decided to leave the post of minister of justice and to thus end his public career. The announcement was made after Jurnal TV on March 9 broadcast the wiretap of a phone conversation of 2015, when he held the post of president of the Constitutional Court, with businessman Veaceslav Platon, who now serves time in jail for swindle, corruption and money laundering.
Alexandru Tanase reacted, saying he cannot be sure of the authenticity of the wiretap as the discussion was held several years ago. According to him, the content of the conversation reveals nothing interesting as to his person, if only the fact that the discussion took place.
